What is vocational rehabilitation?

We support your ability to continue working when your work ability weakens, so that you can work right up until you reach your retirement age. It is important to think about what is the best vocational rehabilitation plan for your situation.
Vocational rehabilitation methods are work trials, job coaching, retraining and supporting entrepreneurial activities. Usually, the rehabilitation plan is a work trial in the employee’s own job or another job. We can also support education or entrepreneurial activities, if necessary.

During rehabilitation, we pay you rehabilitation allowance. Rehabilitation allowance payments begin when the vocational rehabilitation plan is ready and the rehabilitation programme we support begins.

We support returning or continuing to work through vocational rehabilitation. Medical treatment and rehabilitation are the responsibility of the occupational health care provider and the Social Insurance Institution Kela.

The work ability forecast indicates how much an employee is at risk of losing their work ability within the next ten years. The forecast can also be used to see how working conditions or lifestyle changes would affect future healthy working years.
